Ohio Governors' State of the State Addresses
Description: Governor George Hoadly delivered an annual message to the 67th General Assembly of Ohio on Jan. 4, 1886. These 44 pages are included in part 1 of the 1885 Executive Documents. Hoadly (1827-1902) was a Democrat who served as Ohio’s 36th governor from 1884 to 1886. During his administration, Hoadly drew criticism for delaying to order the state militia to restore order in Cincinnati, where rioters marched in early 1884. In addition, Hoadly’s decision to send troops to deal with an uprising due to a coal strike alienated him from conservatives and labor adherents alike. View on Ohio Memory.
