George K. Nash 1902 State of the State Address   Save
Ohio Governors Collection
Description: This 19 page booklet contains the text of Governor George K. Nash’s annual message to the General Assembly of Ohio on January 6, 1902. Nash (1842-1904), a Republican, served as Ohio’s 41st governor from 1900 to 1904 after a stint as State Attorney General. Nash’s administration was businesslike in its authority and intervention in issues of Ohio’s large cities. For example, in framing a new municipal code for Cleveland, Nash and his supporters enacted a code that largely ignored the recommendations of a commission appointed a few years earlier. The recommended code would have provided for more public control and ownership. Though Nash did not oppose the corporation, he enabled property tax cuts by increasing taxes for corporations.
