Description: This 42 page booklet contains the text of Governor Andrew L. Harris’ annual message to the General Assembly on January 6, 1908. Harris (1835-1915), Ohio’s 44th governor, was a Republican politician and “farmer statesman” who also served as a Civil War general, a lawyer, and a state senator. Harris took over as governor upon the death of John Pattison. He supported temperance efforts as well as conservation measures. Harris’ administration supported other progressive legislation, such as that which prohibited corporate political donations and regulated food and drugs. View on Ohio Memory.
