Description: Ohio state flag dates from 1969. The swallowtail flag has three red and two white stripes, and a triangular blue canton. There are seventeen appliqued white stars surrounding a red circle with a white border. At the hoist edge there are two brass grommets. Jim Lundgard was from Port Clinton, Ottawa County, Ohio. He served in the Army from March 1968 to March 1970 and was deployed to Vietnam in January 1969. After watching soldiers in his unit from California fly the California flag, he wrote Governor James A. Rhodes to request an Ohio flag. The governor's office sent this flag. The donor flew the flag over his base camp 6 miles outside of Ben Tre in the Mekong Delta. Lundgard served in the 9th Infantry Division Company B. His unit was the first combined Army/Navy unit since the Civil War. The donor was wounded on Friday, June 13, 1969 at 9:00 am. View on Ohio Memory.
