Description: Correspondence between Quartermaster Sargent John (last name unknown) of Company, of the 25 Infantry to Grandma Burrows in regards to her well-being. Grandma Burrows is related to William Burrows a former student and soldier of Col. Charles Young. Col. Charles Young was the first African American to reach the rank of Colonel in the U.S. Army. In 1918, after being forced into retirement due to health concerns, he rode on horseback from Wilberforce, Ohio to Washington D.C. to prove his physical ability for duty. View on Ohio Memory.
