Description: Modern photograph of the house at 307 Main Street, Stoneham, Massachusetts, that was used to conceal fugitive slaves escaping on the Underground Railroad. The plaque was placed on the house in 1930 during the tercentenary of Stoneham. The children on the steps and the blurred figure in the window above the children are not identified. The photograph is stamped on the back by the Bourdon Studio on Albion Street in Wakefield, Massachusetts. The image was collected by Ohio State University professor Wilbur H. Siebert (1866-1961). Siebert began researching the Underground Railroad in the 1890s as a way to interest his students in history. View on Ohio Memory.
