Description: Peter B. Sarchet (b. 1800) built this house in 1831, in Guernsey County, Ohio. He concealed fugitive slaves here prior to the Civil War. The photograph, taken by Van De Mark, was sent to Wilbur H. Siebert by Ed Smith. Siebert (1866-1961) began researching the Underground Railroad in the 1890s as a way to interest his students in history. View on Ohio Memory.
