Lytle donated his own money and raised money for the construction of the building. His father, also named William Lytle, donated the land for Cincinnati College from the land grant he received from Thomas Jefferson for serving in the Revolutionary War. The building opened and closed twice for a length of nine years. The law school, a department of Cincinnati College, survived in continuous operation until it merged with the University of Cincinnati in 1911. View on Ohio Memory.
