Description: A view of the blast furnace at the Youngstown Sheet and Tube Company's Campbell Works, East Youngstown (Campbell), Ohio, ca. 1910-1919. Blast furnace gas contains a large amount of residual dust--between 100 and 200 tons per day for a single 1300-ton furnace. The large curved pipe running down from the top of the furnace in the photograph is the downcomer. This pipe carries hot waste gas to the dustcatcher, the first component in the cleaning process. View on Ohio Memory.
