Description: Bulletin entitled "Liberia," issued by the American Colonization Society in February of 1893. Underneath the title is the quote "A republic founded by black men, reared by black men, maintained by black men and which holds out to our hope the brightest prospects.-- Henry Clay." The American Colonization Society began in 1816 as an attempt to organize the passage of freed Africans back to Africa in the form of an American colony. This particular bulletin is meant to bring awareness to the colony of Liberia, founded in 1847. View on Ohio Memory.
