Description: This bookplate of British writer and abolitionist Mary Anne Schimmelpenninck (1778-1856) includes a quotation from Psalm 37, verse 21: " The wicked borroweth and payeth not again." The bookplate includes the location of her home (Harley Place, Clifton, Bristol, England) and space in which to record the book's number, shelf, and bookcase location. Mary Anne Schimmelpenninck was born in Birmingham, England, to Samuel John Galton and Lucy Barclay on November 11, 1778. She became a writer during the anti-slavery movement. She married Dutch tobacco merchant Lambert Schimmelpenninck in 1806. She died on August 29, 1856. View on Ohio Memory.
