Description: Chalk portrait, dated ca. 1870, depicting nineteen year old Private (James) Perry Bull of the 92nd Ohio Volunteer Infantry. The portrait is based on an earlier photograph taken of Bull, who was killed on November 25, 1863, at the Battle of Missionary Ridge in Chattanooga, Tennessee. The Battle of Missionary Ridge was part of the Chattanooga Campaign of October and November 1863, and the victory of Union forces over Confederate troops led to Union control of the key state of Tennessee.
