Description: A black and white 35mm negative showing the statue of a World War I American soldier by sculptor Bruce Wilder Saville, outside the Ohio History Center in Columbus, Ohio. This image was taken by A.V. Shirk, 1968-1972. Saville, a professor at The Ohio State University, cast the scuplture, named "The Victorious Doughboy" in 1924 to honor veterans of the First World War. The soldier is depicted in mid-stride with his left leg forward and his right arm holding his gun against his shoulder. View on Ohio Memory.
