Description: Photograph taken at night for the Columbus Citizen-Journal, showing the statue of Christopher Columbus on the grounds of the Ohio Statehouse in Columbus, Ohio. Known as the Christopher Columbus Discovery Monument, this copper sculpture was created by artist Alfonso Pelzer ca. 1890 as a commission by the Pontifical College Josephinum in Columbus, in recognition of the 400-year anniversary of Columbus's voyage. In 1932, the College donated the statue to the State of Ohio, and it was installed on Capitol Square. View on Ohio Memory.
