Description: Riders of the Purple Sage was Zane Grey's most popular novel. This handwritten manuscript was one of Grey's drafts for the novel. More than 130 million Zane Grey novels are in print worldwide. Novelist Zane Grey (1872-1936) was born in Zanesville, Ohio. During his lifetime, he wrote 89 books, including 56 Western novels. The avid sportsman's larger-than-life personality and adventure-filled books influenced early 20th-century popular culture. There were 115 movies made from Zane Grey novels, the first in 1915 and the most recent, a remake of Riders of the Purple Sage, in 1996. The first two pages of the manuscript are included here.
