Description: Booklet contains the text of Governor Seabury Ford's message to the 48th General Assembly on December 31, 1849. Ford (1801-1855) was a Whig politician who, after the closest election in Ohio history, served as Ohio's 20th governor from 1849 to 1850. During his term, the legislature was bitterly divided between Whigs and Democrats, who disagreed regarding issues such as slavery.
