Description: This image shows the Major General Baron deKalb statue that sits on the grounds of the Maryland State House. This is the oldest state capitol building still in use and it was the only state capitol that also served as the nation's capitol. It is the third building to stand on this site and is an example of Georgian architecture. deKalb was a German soldier who served in the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War.
