Description: A close-up photograph of the Lincoln-Vicksburg Monument located at Ohio Statehouse in Columbus, Ohio. Thomas Dow Jones carved the scene of the Confederates Generals Bowen, Montgomery and Pemberton surrendering to Union Generals Grant, McPherson, and Sherman after the Siege of Vicksburg in Vicksburg, Mississippi on July 4, 1863. A bust of Abraham Lincoln also sculpted by Thomas Dow Jones is included in the Lincoln-Vicksburg Monument. The monument was revealed to the public in 1871 to honor the soldiers of the Civil War and President Abraham Lincoln. View on Ohio Memory.
