Description: Titled: A New Map of Ohio with its Canals Roads & Distances; published by S. Augustus Mitchell, N.E. corner of Market & 7th Streets Philadelphia. Believed to have been printed in Mitchell's New Universal Atlas of 1846 Along the top are charts of Steamboat routes in miles from Cleaveland [sic] to varying destinations within the state and as far as New Orleans, Louisiana. Along the bottom of the document is a profile showing 320 miles of depths/heights of major sites around Ohio. Measurements are relative to the Ohio River at Portsmouth which is 474 ft. above the Atlantic Ocean and 94 ft. below Lake Erie for an average descent of 6.5 ft. per mile between Cleaveland [sic] and Massillon.
