Description: This is a photograph of the main shop building of the Jeffrey Manufacturing Company, Columbus, Ohio, ca. 1895. This image only depicts half of the shop floor. The railroad tracks in the photograph run from one end of the building to the other and give the viewer a sense of the building's enormous size. Machines on the factory floor were powered by belts driven from overhead power shafts and pulleys. Many windows provided natural light. View on Ohio Memory.
