Jeffrey Manufacturing Company Collection
Description: These machine runners operated a 35-B Shortwall Coal Cutter manufactured by the Jeffrey Manufacturing Company, Columbus, Ohio. They mined at the Cleveland Morgantown Coal Company, Pursglove, West Virginia. Using the Jeffrey machine, they cut 2,679 tons of coal in 22 days, enough to heat 1,000 homes for an entire winter. Miners like these earned about $22.00 per eight-hour day. On their hats are carbide lamps which burn a flame to illuminate the dark cave. View on Ohio Memory.
