Description: Ash elevator and bin made by the Jeffrey Manufacturing Company of Columbus, Ohio. Coal ash from the boiler room was elevated to the ash bin on the right by a bucket elevator inside the long structure on the left. The man in the wagon pulled a chain which opened a clamshell valve at the base of the ash bin to release coal ash down the chute and into the wagon. This elevator was used at the Washburn Wire Company, New York, New York, 1918. View on Ohio Memory.
