Orchestra at Linden Center" The Works Progress Administration (WPA) was a government office hired unemployed Americans to work on various government projects from April 8, 1935 to June 30, 1943. Many of these projects were similar to ones sponsored by the Public Works Administration. In addition to hiring people from traditionally working-class backgrounds, the WPA also created programs for academics, actors, and artists.
