Ohio Guide Photographs
Description: The Port Columbus Airport was dedicated on July 8, 1929. Depicted in the photograph is the original hangars at Port Columbus. The airport was the first transfer point for westbound transcontinental travel, from New York to Los Angeles. Passengers traveled by the Pennsylvania Railroad, Transcontinental Air Transport (TAT), and the Santa Fe Railway throughout the journey. Due to the Great Depression, coast-to-coast air travel replaced the train-plane service in 1930. The original terminal was replaced in 1958 by the current Port Columbus terminal. View on Ohio Memory.
