The Pioneer Jewish Cemetery is also sometimes called the Old Jewish Cemetery, the Chestnut Street Cemetery, or the Bene Israel Burying Ground. The fifty foot by fifty foot plot is located at the corner of Central Avenue and Chestnut Street, and is the oldest Jewish cemetery west of the Allegheny Mountains. It has eighty five graves and was used from 1821 to 1849, when the cholera epidemic filled the cemetery. View on Ohio Memory.
